Hi All,

I'm Dhanya Mohan. I'm your Executive Officer for International Students this year. I'm a final year Post Graduate Business student.

Being an International student, I know how hard it is to get adapted into an extremely new environment and culture. As the Executive Officer for International Students, my prime motive is to ensure no international students are being left alone from any of the activities or events happening in our Uni and SU.

You will shortly get notified through e-mail about the campaigns I'm planning to do, for which I would appreciate all your support and participation.

Let's make our uni days more memorable together!

Keep an eye out for the updates regarding the campaigns and yeah, there is much more to come!

"Empowering International Student Voices: Highlights from the NUS Conference"

I am thrilled to share with you the outcomes of the recent National Union of Students (NUS) Conference held in Blackpool, UK, where I had the privilege of representing our university as an NUS Delegate. Over the course of April 17th and 18th, I engaged with a diverse group of passionate individuals dedicated to enhancing student life across the nation.

One of the key achievements of the conference was the drafting and approval of a groundbreaking policy on International Student Equality. Through spirited debates and collaborative discussions, we formulated a comprehensive framework aimed at addressing the unique challenges faced by international students. Notably, our proposal to establish a full-time International Student Executive Officer within the NUS, who is themselves an international student, was met with resounding support and has been passed for further government approval. I am also delighted to inform you that a similar initiative has been recommended to our Student Union, advocating for the formation of a dedicated panel comprising 5/6 members specifically for international students.

Looking ahead, I am excited to announce two upcoming initiatives designed to amplify international student voices and foster community engagement. In the first half of May, an international student's mixer will provide a platform for open dialogue, enabling you to share your suggestions, expectations, and concerns to shape the future of our student experience. Additionally, a comprehensive survey will be launched to gather valuable insights and ensure maximum participation from our diverse student body.

Furthermore, I had the opportunity to discuss the importance of academic integrity and increased student involvement in SU activities with our Student Union. These crucial topics will be emphasized during the international student's mixer, reinforcing our commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive academic environment.

In conclusion, I am immensely proud of the progress made at the NUS Conference and the strides we are taking to empower international student voices. Together, let us continue to advocate for positive change and work towards a more vibrant and inclusive university community.

What I'm working on and my latest updates

Being an International student presents unique challenges, requiring immense courage and determination to establish new roots in a foreign land, leaving cherished memories behind. The Bucks Students' Union (SU) recognises these difficulties and is committed to enhancing the overall student experience, with a particular focus on supporting international students. In my role as the International Students Executive Officer, I've diligently worked to bridge connections among students and address their concerns.

Financial constraints and accommodation issues are predominant struggles for international students. To alleviate these challenges, the SU has been proactive in addressing the concerns raised by students. Many have found university accommodation through SU initiatives, and ongoing discussions are in progress to implement financial aid programs tailored to support international students.

In the realm of university life, efforts have been made to foster inclusivity between home and international students. I have proposed an Ice Breaking campaign with the aim being to create a conducive environment for students to connect and build lasting friendships. Complementing this initiative, I have recently put forwards the suggestion of a Diversity Campaign to pave the way for a Grand Cultural Fest, celebrating the rich tapestry of cultures within the university community.

At Bucks SU, our mission is to make student life more enjoyable and fulfilling, especially for our international community. We remain committed to addressing the unique challenges faced by international students and fostering a vibrant, inclusive campus culture. Through collaborative efforts, we aspire to create a supportive environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and culturally.
