Defend the Cup!

With only eight weeks to go until the biggest sports day of the year, the Varsity hype is definitely growing strong around campus.  On Wednesday 1 April we will be locking horns with our long-time rivals Roehampton for the eighth time running, as we fight to Defend the Cup! Last Wednesday 114 members from clubs and societies came together to celebrate the official Varsity Launch Night.

The launch night included the reveal of the official Varsity 2020 t-shirts, the hype videos from both universities and of course the long awaited Varsity Captains. We kicked off the night with the highlights video from last year’s legendary performances that led us to a much deserved win – setting off everyone’s Bucks Spirit for the night. The cheers filled the room as we revealed that we were bringing back the all-time favourite 't-shirt timetable' (it’s the little things isn’t it?) and everyone broke into the famous Bucks New Uni chant after seeing the official hype video for the first time ever.

Videos and t-shirts aside, it’s no secret that the main attraction for the night was the announcement of this year’s Varsity Captains. After a week of heavy campaigning, heated husting questions and just 24 hours of voting, it was time to reveal who had won out of our five candidates. Taking the lead this year as the 2020 Varsity Captains we have Football’s Chair Travis Hoey and Netball’s Chair and 1st Team Captain Georgia Miller. Travis says he is most looking forward to “uniting the university by leading us to another Varsity victory” while Georgia is excited to find new ways to involve spectators and players and create a memorable day for everyone on and off the pitch!
