This privacy page explains our approach to any personal information we might collect from you and covers information that is shared to us by Buckinghamshire New University or any other third-parties. The information below explains what our purpose is, when we process your information, and your rights surrounding this.
1. Who are we and what do we do?
This site and all of our services are operated by Bucks Students' Union, which is a registered charity (charity number: 1144820), and Bucks Hire, which is a trading name of BSU Trading Limited (company number: 08505399), ("we", "our" or "us").
2. How to contact us
If you have any questions about the content within our privacy statements, or how we handle your data, please contact our Data Protection Officer by:

3. What personal information do we collect and how do we use it?
Buckinghamshire New University provides us with a record of every student which forms your membership with Bucks Students' Union. As a membership organisation, we believe that there is a legitimate interest for us to process your data to provide you with the fantastic range of services you need.
If you are joining the BNU alumni network, we will ask for your consent to collect your personal data at the point of registration.
We collect and use personal information in a variety of ways which is dependent on your relationship with us. We have created different statements that outline the personal information we collect and how we process it.
To view the individual statements, please see the Data Protection tab on our Policies page.
4. Our data protection policy
To view our Data Protection and Information Security Policy, please see the Data Protection tab on our Policies page.
5. Our use of cookies and similar technologies
Our site uses cookies and other similar technologies to help improve the user experience. Please see our Cookies Statement to find out more about the cookies we use and how to manage your settings.
6. Third-party links and services
Our site contains links to third-party websites and services. Please remember that when you use a link to go from our site to another website, or you request information from a third-party, that our privacy statements may no longer apply.
7. How long do we keep your personal information for?
The length of time we keep your personal information for will depend on the purposes for which it was originally collected. We have completed impact assessments, where we collect personal information, but we will not keep it for longer than necessary.
8. Confidentiality and security of your personal information
When we process your data, we will have already carefully considered the lawful justification for doing so, the parameters in which the data is processed, the secure storage of your data and undertake impact assessments to ensure your rights are delivered.
9. Freedom of Information (FOI) requests
As an unincorporated organisation and a registered charity, Bucks Students' Union is not a ‘public authority’ in the sense of the Freedom of Information Act. Bucks Students’ Union is a separate organisation from Buckinghamshire New University with its own Board of Trustees. The Freedom of Information Act allows access to information held by a public authority, therefore records that the Students’ Union hold are not subject to the Act.
10. Changes to our statements or policies
We may change this policy from time to time. If we make any significant changes in the way we treat your personal information then we will make this clear on our website or by contacting you directly.
If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please let us know by emailing sudataprotection@bnu.ac.uk.
