I’m Amy, your Students with Disabilities’ Executive Officer. As we come to the end of the academic year, this will, unfortunately, be my final update in the role.
I have truly enjoyed my time as Students with Disabilities’ Executive Officer. It has been a pleasure speaking with students who have either visible or hidden disabilities and it has been eye-opening to hear about other people's difficulties. I've been mostly preoccupied with a large campaign that has been approved by the Students’ Union and is now awaiting approval from the University.
The sunflower spaces have been an idea I've had for a long time and my goal is that these areas will allow students, whether they have a disability or not, to learn about numerous disabilities and the support available. These sunflower areas will be stocked with informational resources, and there will hopefully be an area at each of the three campuses: High Wycombe, Uxbridge, and Aylesbury. I’m hoping these areas will be expanded upon over time so that they are always there to support students for the foreseeable future.
Thank you to everyone that has supported me within this role. I thoroughly enjoy advocating for others and creating campaigns that will hopefully make a difference. I know you all will be in good hands with your next elected executive officer, and I wish them all the best within this role. Make sure you stay in touch with the Students’ with Disabilities network and join our WhatsApp group.
Thank you and remember to stay kind,
Amy (she/her), Students with Disabilities' Executive Officer.
