We've counted all your amazing donations and passed along the message to your RAG Ambassador, Jess Bradbury, who has written a little something to round up what an amazing week we've all had.
On Monday 21 February, we kicked off our second RAG Week of the academic year. RAG stands for Raise and Give which is where we, as members of the Students' Union, get to support amazing charities and do odd things all in the name of a good cause. Whilst we support many good causes throughout the year, we hold two weeks specifically dedicated to raising money for our two chosen RAG Charities. These are the charities we all voted for at the start of the year and this year they are the Road Dahl Marvellous Children's Charity and DrugFam.
Over the week we had a variety of events such as a Bake Sale run by Musical Theatre and Boxing, Netball ran their annual Raffle4RAG, and we saw so many clubs, societies, and teams turn up for a great evening of Volley4RAG. Throughout the week we were also raising money for our SABB Challenges, which were completed on the Friday with Honor wearing her PJ's, Tom in his Taco costume and Tash wearing a bin bag all day. To round off the challenges we set the Sabbatical Officers outisde in our beer garden and students were given the opportunity to Soak-a-SABB - which was enjoyed by many.
If you missed it, you can find some of the photos on Facebook, along with the Volley4Rag photos.
I'd like to take the opportunity to thank BNU Dance Club who raised £187.86 at their home dance competition with their raffle. We also had the LGBTQ+ and Nursing societies team up to host a Drag4RAG Takeover, where guest speakers from Drug Fam came along to speak to the students and everyone got to meet Big Bertha.
It was great seeing so many people coming out to support this event. Men's Basketball's Captain, Dwayne Wilson, raised £88.95 by himself doing a sponsored silence - the office thoroughly enjoyed a bit of peace and quiet. Well done to all of the clubs and societies for getting involved in RAG Week.
We managed to raise a total of £1086.42 for our two RAG Charities - Drug Fam and Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity. There is still time to raise money for this year’s charities and any club, society, or individual can hold an event - just pop into the Students' Union office for help organising it.
Nominations for next year’s RAG Charities will be posted over summer so make sure you have your say in putting forward a local Buckinghamshire charity you would like the Students' Union to support next year.
If you're thinking of running for RAG Ambassador next year, feel free to get in touch with any questions you might have and don't forget to nominate yourself for the role before the deadline.
