Each year we fundraise for the RAG charitites you've voted for and our fantastic RAG Ambassadors, Tegan and Maya, get to collaborate with clubs, societies, and the whole student body in support of the two chosen charities, Hearing Dogs For Deaf People and Buckinghamshire Mind. Your Amabassadors take lead on many of the fundraising throughout the year, but the absolute highlights are the two fantastic RAG weeks they host. So, let's hear from your ambassadors about their plans for their first RAG Week.
Our first RAG week is running from Monday 24 October to Friday 28 October and there will be many opportunities for you to get involved with. RAG stands for Raise and Give, which is where we, as members of the Students' Union, get to support amazing charities and do odd things all in the name of a good cause. This will be full of different fundraisers, challenges and activities all with the same intention - to raise money for our two brilliant RAG charities.
Like all local Mind charitites, Buckinghamshire Mind receives no funding from national Mind and they rely on donations and community fundraising, which underpin all the vital mental health services. This support makes an incredible difference, ensuring we can be here to support our community’s mental health needs now and in the future.
Hearing Dogs For Deaf People train dogs to alert deaf people to important and lifesaving sounds they would otherwise miss – such as the smoke alarm, alarm clock and even a baby crying. Being aware of these – thanks to a hearing dog – makes a real difference to deaf people’s lives and can even save them.
There's something happening every day for RAG Week next week from an obstacle course to pumpkin carving, but the main challenge happening all week, is to wear yellow. Across the week we'll be asking you to wear yellow and make a small £1 donation to support our charities. There will be donation buckets available from the reception at the Students' Union if you'd like to take one to your lecture, training session, or society social.
On Wednesday 26 October, not only do we have nominated pairs spending the day handcuffed to eachother to complete challenges to help fundraise, we're also hosting the first takeover of the year in The Venue - I put a spell on you! The suggested donation on the night in £4 and we'd love it if you could donate to your hancuffed pairs as well.
Rusty Buck will be helping us on Thursday 27 October as he hides himself away for our scavenger hunt. There will be clues located all across the High Wycombe Campus to help you find him. Later in the evening we'll be teaming up as we head to the Events Hall for Netball4RAG, it's fancy dress themed so dig out your spooky outfits and party hats. We can’t wait to see every team’s costumes and brilliant netball skills. We’re asking for a £10 suggested donation per team and £1 suggested donation for spectators.
Finally, to wind us down from a brilliant week of fundraising, we'll be hosting a movie night in the room on Friday 28 October. It's a £3 suggested donation and you can bring your own blankets!
We can’t wait to see you all get involved with RAG this year!
