From repair to repurpose, preloved items and charity shops offer several benefits that reduces our carbon footprint and promotes conscious consumer behaviour. Take a look at how you can get involved this Green Week.
Throughout the years fast fashion has quickly become an issue worldwide. However, as awareness of its detrimental effects on the environment and labour conditions grows, an increasing number of individuals are turning to a more sustainable option: preloved fashion.
From repair to repurpose, preloved items and charity shops offer several benefits that reduces our carbon footprint and promotes conscious consumer behaviour.
Project Preloved
Bucks Students’ Union with your Green Ambassadors Lucy and Bianca are bringing you Project Preloved 2.0! Embracing preloved fashion offers a sustainable alternative to the fast fashion. By prioritizing repair, repurpose, and supporting charity shops, individuals can reduce their environmental footprint while show support towards causes.
Biodiversity at Bucks
Bucks does Biodiversity was previously one of our Green week campaigns that promoted the effects of biodiversity in our everyday lives. Activities were held to make Bug and Bee houses from recyclable materials. Students were also involved in making Wildflower bombs, placing them in key areas to promote growth around the university.
Bucks New Usage
Bucks New Usage is where students and staff are able to donate household items, they no longer need for others to make better use of - instead of just throwing it away and letting it go to waste.
Green Week
Twice a year we host Green Week. We have lots of activities for students to get involved with to help with to get involved with sustainability. These can be found on our Whats on page.

We have fantastic fabrics, textiles, haberdashery items, cards, papers, foils, and shelves full of materials just waiting for you to give it a second life and use it on your next project.

Refresh Wycombe's Repair Cafe
As part of Project Preloved, we’re teaming up with a few local businesses to help you bring new life to your old or broken items.
As part of Green Week we will be bringing you BNU's First Repair Cafe. Visit the Winter Garden, 11 April, 11am to 2pm, and bring your items which are need in repair.
If you have any broken items from your toaster, jewellery and watches as well as clothes in need of repair please bring them down and the team will do their very best to repair and give the item a new least of life.
Instead of discarding garments at the first sign of wear and tear, individuals can invest in repairs, extending the lifespan of their clothing. Whether it's patching up a small tear or replacing a zipper, simple repairs can significantly prolong the longevity of a garment.
This doesn’t just apply to clothes this also applies to furniture and electricals.
Sanitary Bag Making
As part of Green Week and Project Preloved we will be making these amazing handy bags using leftover materials that we don't want going to waste. Just pop down to the SU foyer, Friday 12 April, 1pm - 3pm.
Charity shops play a vital role in the preloved fashion ecosystem. Not only do they offer a wide range of affordable preloved items, but they also support charitable causes. Proceeds from charity shop sales often go towards funding various community projects, supporting vulnerable groups, or financing research initiatives.
By shopping at charity shops, consumers can contribute directly to these causes while also reducing their environmental impact. Additionally, donating unwanted clothing to charity shops ensures that preloved items find new homes instead of ending up in landfills.
