Bucks New Usage is BNU’s very own preloved shop. In collaboration with the Student Hub, we work to create a circular economy on campus where students and staff can donate household items so that others can re-use them in their own home. The best bit about this is, apart from being a great step toward a more sustainable home, it's totally free for student to pop in and pick something up.
Over freshers' fortnight, we saw over 50 students picking up items to help them settle in to their new life at university, which means we've given away a lot of items. To keep this initiative up and running in order to support more students across the year (we all know what i's like when our favourite mug gets chipped), we really need your help.
We're asking that everyone have a little look around their kitchen and see if they have any items that they're no longer using. Whether you recently bought some fancy new wine glasses, but haven't yet shifted your old ones, or you've just got one too many saucepans laying around.
In particular, we're in need of
- Forks
- Dinner plates
- Bowls
- Non-branded glasses
- Kitchen utensils
- Chopping boards
- Pots and pans
You can donate at any time by bringing in your cleaned items to either the Students' Union offices or the Student Hub.
We'd like to encourage all staff and students to be as sustainable as possible and think about the effects of buying new instead of preloved. In the cost of living crisis, we understand that not everyone can afford all they may need to kit out their new home and this initiative is here to support you.
If you have any questions, or want to know where you can pick up a new mug, drop us an email on volunteering@bnu.ac.uk.
