Hadestown is a Tony Award-winning musical with music, lyrics, and book by Anaïs Mitchell. It intertwines the stories of two Greek myths: Orpheus and Eurydice and Hades and Persephone. The show is set in a depression-era, folk- and jazz-inspired industrial world, giving the ancient tale a fresh, gritty, and soulful atmosphere.

The musical explores themes of love, sacrifice, capitalism, and hope in the face of despair.

It offers a commentary on the inequality between the rich and the poor and reflects on the cyclical nature of fate.
