Overview

BSL Deaf Awareness Training is a programme which educates individuals and organisations about Deaf culture, communication, and the needs of Deaf people. This training is important for promoting inclusivity, accessibility, and effective communication with the Deaf community as part of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) in workplaces or organisations.

Here is what will be covered:

  • Introduction to Deaf Culture – understand the history, values and traditions of the Deaf community.

  • Communication Strategies – learn about different communication methods.

  • BSL Basics – teach basic BSL, including fingerspelling, common signs and grammatical rules.

  • Deaf Awareness – the challenges and barriers that Deaf people face in life, education, workplaces and socially.

  • Accessibility and Assistive Technology – what devices and software are available for Deaf people to use.

  • Effective Communication Tips – different methods of communicating with Deaf people.

 

Promoting Inclusivity - Foster diversity and inclusion in organisations

Understanding Deaf Culture - Enhance knowledge of Deaf culture and history

Improving Communication - Improve interaction through sign language and effective communication strategies

Increasing Accessibility - Promotes understanding of Deaf challenges and available assistive technologies

 

This session is entirely in person and will last for 2 hours. There will be interpreters who will assist throughout the session. 

The session is fully accessible, the location is wheelchair accessible with a lift to the room.
