As part of Mental Health Awareness Week 10-16 May 2021, you are invited to take part in a ‘Silent observation’ Mindfulness Session with Danie Woodbridge, BNU’s’ Inclusion, Diversity, & Disability Manager.
This session will be available to all students in the BNU community, including alumni. The session will be guided, and you are free to leave cameras off if you wish.
To get the best from the session, it is advisable to be seated in a warm, comfortable place with little to no distraction.
Mindfulness can bring us closer to nature, and is great done outdoors. It helps us take notice of our surroundings, and appreciate nature more, instead of rushing by and not noticing because we are stuck in our thoughts.
There is increasing evidence that practicing being mindful, and being close to nature, can help with emotional self-regulation, anxiety, depression and other cognitive disorders, as well as managing physical pain, and general stress.
Danie has been running mindfulness sessions for around 10 years and says:
“Mindfulness is for everyone, you don’t need any special training or equipment to do it, and it can be done anywhere!” … “In my personal journey, I found mindfulness has helped massively with my own anxiety, and over time becomes something you just do.It ’s not about clearing the mind, but just understanding the mind better, feeling more in control of your life, and is closely linked to self-care, self-awareness, and gratitude”.
The NHS says: Mindfulness meditation involves sitting silently and paying attention to thoughts, sounds, the sensations of breathing or parts of the body, bringing your attention back whenever the mind starts to wander. https://bit.ly/3dMsOd0
