Joining a sports club at BNU is completely free, thanks to The Big Deal. Sports not only help your overall wellbeing, but are also fantastic places to meet new people outside of your classes.
There is never a bad time to join a sports club. Freshers' Fortnight is when most students join so they can go to taster sessions and start training early. However, you can join a sports club at any time throughout the year as our clubs love to get more members involved. So, even if you’ve never played the sport before, or you’re a long-term fan, there is always a space for you.
To join a club you’ll need sign up for one of the free memberships from the club’s page. Just add the membership to your basket and complete the check-out process on your free membership. Once you’ve done this, you’re a member. Once you’ve officially got your membership, make sure you check out the club’s social media pages to see what they’re up to and how you can get involved.
The University has a gym, located in the main Gateway building, at the High Wycombe Campus. For more information about opening times, classes and membership options, please visit the Gateway Gym page on the University website.
If you see this crown, it means that the club has been rewarded for all their hard work over the past year and been crowned Club of the Year 2023-24. This year, that title has gone to the Netball's team.
If you see a rosette, then the club is one of our accredited clubs and has engaged in the wider Students' Union and worked their way through the accreditation scheme.
When you join a club, you'll be welcomed by the committee. The committee are there to ensure the club is running as smoothly as possible and to help you organise training and social events.
Once a month, members of all our sports clubs meet for Athletic Union Council. It is an opportunity for all of the teams to feedback to the Union and discuss future developments for their clubs. Everyone is welcome to attend and you can find the latest date by speaking to your club chair.
If you have any questions about any of the sports on offer, or you can’t see the sport you’re interested in, feel free to email us, sport@bnu.ac.uk.
